How to pass ticket fees to buyers or absorb them

You choose who pays the fees on each ticket type. Open the ticket type, click Show Advanced Settings and set Handle Fees to Pass fee to the buyer, so buyers pay the fees at checkout, or Absorb fee, so buyers pay only the ticket price and you cover the fees.

Set who pays the fees

Open your event and go to Ticket Types.
Click Create Ticket, or open the menu next to an existing ticket type and choose Edit Ticket.
Click Show Advanced Settings.
Under Handle Fees, choose Pass fee to the buyer or Absorb fee.
Click Create Ticket Type, or save your changes if you're editing.

The setting covers both fees on a paid ticket: the TixFox fee and the payment processing fee.

See what buyers pay and what you get

As you type a price, the Pricing Summary (Estimated) shows the fees and the final amounts. Here is the same $25 ticket with each option:

Processing is a little higher when you pass the fee, because it's charged on the larger amount the buyer pays.

Which option to choose

Pass fee to the buyer when you want to keep the full ticket price.
Absorb fee when you want the price people see on your page and posters to be exactly what they pay at checkout.

Each ticket type has its own setting, so you can mix them. For example, absorb the fee on a student ticket and pass it on for general admission.

Common questions

Do free tickets have fees?

No. A ticket priced at $0 has no TixFox fee and no processing fee, whichever option you pick.

Can I change the setting after tickets have sold?

Yes. Open the menu next to the ticket type, choose Edit Ticket and change Handle Fees.

What is the payment processing fee?

It's the card fee charged by Stripe for taking the payment. See Stripe Fees Explained.

How do credits work with this setting?

Credits don't change who pays. With Absorb fee, a credit covers the TixFox fee, so you pay your credit pack's price per ticket instead. See How do TixFox credits work?
